Vegan restaurants in Shinjuku: where plant-based eaters actually eat (English menus noted)

Yes, you can eat vegan in Shinjuku
Shinjuku looks like the least vegan place in Tokyo — neon, ramen counters, yakitori smoke. But within a few minutes of Shinjuku-Sanchome and Shinjuku-Gyoenmae there is a real cluster of plant-based kitchens, several of them 100% vegan. The key, as everywhere in Japan, is the dashi (fish stock), egg and dairy that hide in 'vegetable' dishes — so we mark which places are fully vegan and which are vegan-friendly.
Fully vegan (no need to ask about dashi)
AIN SOPH. Journey is the famous one — fluffy vegan pancakes and 'heaven' burgers near Shinjuku-Sanchome, all egg- and dairy-free. NEO Shinjuku Atsushi is a neon, sci-fi burger bar whose menu is currently all plant-based (double soy-meat cheeseburgers; English menu, tourist-friendly). slowfood & wine KiboKo is a tiny all-vegan natural-wine bar doing seasonal organic-vegetable small plates. HealthyTOKYO CBD Cafe in the basement of Shinjuku Marui Honkan is 100% vegan and English-friendly — gluten-free lasagna, paninis, CBD sweets. For dessert, marbre vegan by Shinjuku Gyoen makes all-vegan cakes, several of them gluten-free.
Vegan-friendly (big plant-based menu, but also serves meat)
Green Italian TORCIA on the 7th floor of Isetan Shinjuku has a large dedicated plant-based menu — vegan 'foie gras', alt-meat, vegan pizza — alongside regular Italian. plant more inside Lumine Shinjuku 1 serves 100% plant-based meal plates and desserts next to a normal menu. At both, pick the plant-based items and confirm with staff.
Plan it
Most of these sit between Shinjuku-Sanchome and Shinjuku-Gyoenmae — an easy walking loop. Strict vegans should lead with the fully-vegan five; if you want context on Japan's hidden animal ingredients first, read our guide to whether vegans can eat in Japan, or browse every plant-based spot under /dietary/vegan.

- Yes — at least five: AIN SOPH. Journey, NEO Shinjuku Atsushi, slowfood & wine KiboKo, HealthyTOKYO CBD Cafe (Marui Honkan) and marbre vegan are all 100% plant-based, so there is no hidden fish dashi, egg or dairy to ask about.
- Which Shinjuku vegan spots have an English menu?
- NEO Shinjuku Atsushi and HealthyTOKYO CBD Cafe are explicitly English-friendly, and AIN SOPH. Journey is used to foreign guests. At Isetan's TORCIA and Lumine's plant more, staff can point out the plant-based items.
- Are Isetan TORCIA and Lumine's plant more fully vegan?
- No — both are vegan-friendly: they run a large dedicated plant-based menu but also serve meat and fish. Order the plant-based plates or desserts and confirm with staff if you are strict.
