Vegan restaurants in Asakusa: the fully vegan kitchens we verified, a vegan ramen, and what closed (Sept 2026)

The fully vegan restaurants in Asakusa that we could confirm on 23 September 2026 are Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa, Etsunou (injoy) and Shochikuen Cafe — each states on its own website that its food is entirely vegan. Taito City's official map also marks Vegan Eat Tokyo and Asakusa Hatoya as all-vegan, but we could not read a channel either one runs itself, so they are listed further down with the other places we could not confirm. The ramen shop Yoroiya, a minute from Senso-ji, is not a vegan restaurant but serves one fully plant-based bowl. Every venue detail below comes from the venue's own website unless we name another source.
How we checked: we count a restaurant as confirmed only when its own website says the food is fully vegan and gives its hours, and a dated sign shows it trading in 2026 — its own posts, or Tabelog reviews of 2026 visits with no closure flag.
The one question: dashi
Most savoury Japanese cooking starts with dashi, and the standard stock is made with katsuobushi (dried skipjack tuna) or niboshi (dried sardines). A plate of “just vegetables” or a bowl of miso soup is therefore usually not vegan. At the three fully vegan kitchens below, that question is already answered. Everywhere else, say “sakana no dashi nashi de” (without fish stock), then name egg (tamago), dairy (nyūseihin) and honey (hachimitsu) separately. Our is dashi vegan? explainer and Japanese phrases for vegans have the longer version.
Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa — 100% vegan, near the Sumida River
- Vegan status: fully vegan. Its menu page states that every ingredient is plant-based — no meat, fish, eggs, dairy, honey or extract-based stock — and that no dish uses the five pungent vegetables (garlic, onion, green onion, Chinese chives and rakkyō). Its FAQ says no animal products are brought into the restaurant at all.
- Where: 1-3-13 Hanakawado, Yabuki Building 1F. The restaurant's directions: one minute from exit 5 of Asakusa Station (Ginza Line) or the Tobu line's north exit, four minutes from exit A3 (Toei Asakusa Line).
- When: the restaurant's own FAQ says breakfast is served on only about two days a week, not every day, and the monthly calendar in its notices marks which days. The morning menu (10:00–11:30, last order 11:15) runs only on those marked days — in October 2026: 3, 4, 7, 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28 October. On every other open day it opens at 11:30 for lunch, 11:30–15:00 (last order 14:30). The October 2026 calendar marks every Monday as closed (5, 12, 19 and 26 October — including 12 October, a national holiday). Dinner is private hire only. The calendar is posted month by month, so check the current one before you go.
- House rules: one order per person aged 7 and over — a drink or a dessert on its own is fine — or a ¥500 table charge; visits are limited to one hour (staff will tell you when it is busy); and no outside food or drink. Bookings for up to 14 people go through the reservation link on its site; larger groups contact the restaurant.
- Allergens it flags itself: fried food is cooked in coconut oil, the curries contain coconut milk and tomato, and some dishes contain nuts. The dishes are wheat-free; the beer and the non-alcoholic beer are not.
The restaurant posts each month's calendar on its own site, dining.marugotovegan.com.
Etsunou (injoy) — pure-vegan shojin cooking at Asakusa Station
- Vegan status: fully vegan. Its website says it serves “pure vegan” shojin (Buddhist-style) cooking made with no ingredients of animal origin, none of the five pungent vegetables and no alcohol, alongside Chinese tea.
- Where: 3F, Asakusa Station North Exit Building, 1-9-1 Hanakawado. By the restaurant's own directions it is right by the Tobu line's north-exit ticket gates, one minute from Asakusa Station and six minutes from Kaminarimon.
- When: Thursday to Tuesday, closed Wednesdays: lunch 11:00–14:00, dinner 17:00–19:00. Lunch needs no booking; dinner is by reservation only — contact the restaurant by 15:00 the day before. Telephone 03-5830-2333.
- Freshness check: the homepage that lists these hours was last updated in August 2023, but Taito City's October 2025 map gives the same times (marked “L.O.”) and the same closing day, and the restaurant's own online shop took pre-orders for seasonal zongzi (leaf-wrapped rice dumplings) from 14 May to 5 June 2026. Tabelog's listing, by contrast, shows 11:30–14:00 and 17:30–20:00 with Tuesdays closed, so if you are making a special trip, phone first.
Shochikuen Cafe — 100% vegan cakes, burgers and pizza, Nishi-Asakusa
- Vegan status: fully vegan. The café's FAQ says nothing on the menu uses dairy, egg or honey, and its menu page says every item is also free of the five pungent vegetables. The kitchen is wheat-free.
- What to order: the rainbow cake, its layers coloured with vegetables rather than food dye, is listed at ¥850 before tax on the menu page (last updated in August 2024, so treat prices as a guide). Some items contain almonds and walnuts.
- Where and when: 2-7-6 Nishi-Asakusa. The homepage lists weekdays 9:30–16:30, weekends 9:30–17:00, no regular closing day; telephone 03-6802-8355. You do not need to book unless you are a large group.
- Freshness check: the homepage was last updated in April 2025, but Taito City's dietary-diversity map (October 2025 edition) prints the same hours, and Tabelog shows no closure flag and diner reviews of visits in September 2026.
Yoroiya — a vegan ramen one minute from Senso-ji (not a vegan restaurant)
- What it is: a Japanese-style ramen shop on Denbōin-dōri. Its vegan ramen (¥1,400) is a soy-sauce bowl on a stock of napa cabbage, onion, dried shiitake, kombu and carrot, with egg-free noodles, finished with mitsuba and yuzu.
- Read this first: everything else on the menu is not vegan. Taito City's October 2025 map describes the house broth as chicken and pork bones with dried sardines and bonito, so the vegan bowl is cooked in a kitchen that handles all of those. It also contains onion, so it does not suit five-precept (oriental) vegans.
- Where and when: 1-36-7 Asakusa — one minute on foot from Senso-ji, by the shop's own directions. Its store page lists morning ramen 8:30–10:00 (last order 9:45), then 11:00–21:00 (last order 20:30), open every day.

Near, not in, Asakusa: Fucha Ryori Bon
- What it is: a restaurant serving fucha ryōri, a Chinese-derived style of Buddhist vegetarian cuisine that the restaurant traces to the monk Ingen and Manpuku-ji temple in Uji. Bon says it recommends its food to vegetarians. It does not say on its site that the courses are vegan, and it does not publish what goes into its stock — ask for vegan, with no fish stock, egg or dairy, when you book.
- Where: 1-2-11 Ryūsen. By the restaurant's directions it is ten minutes on foot from exit 3 or 4 of Iriya Station (Hibiya Line), or five minutes by taxi from Tawaramachi Station (Ginza Line) — a separate trip, not a stroll from Senso-ji.
- Booking and hours: visits are by telephone reservation (03-3872-0375, 10:00–21:00), and same-day cancellations are charged. Service runs 12:00–15:00 (last order 12:30) and 18:00–21:00 (last order 18:30); closed Wednesdays and Thursdays, over New Year and for a summer break.
- Price: courses ¥6,000, ¥8,000 and ¥10,000; a ¥5,000 set lunch or bento on weekdays (tax and service extra).

On other lists, but not confirmed by us today
These appear in Taito City's own dietary-diversity map (edition 18, October 2025 — the edition on the city's pamphlet page today) or on Tabelog, but we could not confirm their current status or hours from a channel the venue itself runs. Check with them before you go.
- Vegan Eat Tokyo (1-22-5 Asakusa) — the city map marks it “All menus are vegan”. Its own channel is an Instagram account we could not read without logging in, so we give no hours from the venue itself; Tabelog shows no closure flag and diner reviews of visits in September 2026.
- Vegan Cafe Monkey Magic (2-27-16 Asakusa) — Tabelog lists it as reservation-only, its newest Tabelog review describes a June 2024 visit, and it is not on the city's 2025 map. We no longer recommend it.
- Asakusa Tofa King (Asakusa Tōfa Daiō) (4-43-4 Asakusa) — a Taiwanese tofu-pudding (douhua) café. The city map says that, apart from the shaved ice made with condensed milk, its sweets use no animal products. We could not reach its website.
- Asakusa Hatoya (2-3-3 Asakusa) — fruit sandwiches made with vegan cream and bread based on soy milk; the city map marks it “All menus are vegan”. We found no working website for it.
- Fujifuku (2-2-1 Nishi-Asakusa) — the city map describes vegan home-style cooking prepared if you book at least a day ahead, but marks it “Vegan and vegetarian menus are available” rather than all-vegan. We found no working website for it.
Closed: Sekai Cafe Asakusa
An earlier version of this page recommended Sekai Cafe near Kaminarimon. Tabelog now marks the Asakusa branch (1-18-8 Asakusa) as closed (閉店), and sekai-cafe.com, the address we used to link, returns “not found”. It is no longer listed here.
Which one, when
- A fully vegan sit-down meal near the station → Marugoto: lunch from 11:30, or the 10:00 morning menu on its marked days only (Mondays closed in October 2026; dinner is private hire only). Or Etsunou: lunch 11:00–14:00, no booking needed; closed Wednesdays.
- No garlic or onion (five-precept / oriental vegan) → Marugoto, Etsunou or Shochikuen; all three say so on their own sites.
- Cake and coffee → Shochikuen.
- Ramen beside Senso-ji with friends who are not vegan → Yoroiya's vegan bowl — shared kitchen, contains onion.
- An occasion meal you book ahead → Etsunou's dinner (book by 15:00 the day before), or Fucha Ryori Bon by phone — settle the vegan details when you call.
- Evening: of the places on this page whose own sites give their hours, Etsunou (17:00–19:00, reservation only), Yoroiya (until 21:00) and Fucha Ryori Bon (18:00 seating) serve dinner.
What we could not confirm
- Whether Yoroiya's vegan ramen is available during the 8:30 morning service.
- Whether Fucha Ryori Bon's courses can be made fully vegan (egg, dairy, stock).
- The current status and hours of every venue in the “not confirmed” section above.
Everything else was checked on 23 September 2026 against the sources listed below; Asakusa hours change without notice. For the rest of the city, see vegan and vegetarian Tokyo.

FAQ
- Which restaurants in Asakusa are fully vegan?
- The ones we could confirm on 23 September 2026 are Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa (1-3-13 Hanakawado), Etsunou (injoy) (3F, Asakusa Station North Exit Building, 1-9-1 Hanakawado) and Shochikuen Cafe (2-7-6 Nishi-Asakusa). Each says on its own website that it uses no animal products and none of the five pungent vegetables. Taito City's October 2025 map also marks Vegan Eat Tokyo and Asakusa Hatoya as all-vegan, but we could not confirm either from a channel it runs itself.
- What are Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa's opening hours?
- Lunch is 11:30–15:00 (last order 14:30). The morning menu, 10:00–11:30 (last order 11:15), runs only on selected days — about two a week, according to the restaurant's FAQ; its October 2026 calendar marks 3, 4, 7, 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28 October. On other open days it opens at 11:30. Its October 2026 calendar shows every Monday closed (including 12 October, a national holiday), and dinner is private hire only. Check the monthly calendar on its website before you go.
- Is there vegan ramen near Senso-ji?
- Yes. Yoroiya, at 1-36-7 Asakusa and one minute on foot from Senso-ji by the shop's own directions, serves a vegan ramen for ¥1,400 made with a vegetable, kombu and dried-shiitake stock and egg-free noodles. It is not a vegan restaurant: its other ramen use chicken, pork and fish broth from the same kitchen, and the vegan bowl contains onion.
- Is Sekai Cafe in Asakusa still open?
- No. As of 23 September 2026, Tabelog marks Sekai Cafe Asakusa (1-18-8 Asakusa) as closed, and the sekai-cafe.com address returns “not found”. We have removed it from this guide.
- Is Fucha Ryori Bon vegan?
- Not confirmed. Bon serves fucha ryori, a Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, and recommends its food to vegetarians, but its website does not say the courses are vegan or what goes into its stock. Book by phone (03-3872-0375) and ask for vegan with no fish stock, egg or dairy. It is in Ryusen, ten minutes' walk from Iriya Station, not in central Asakusa.
- Where can I eat in Asakusa without garlic or onion (oriental vegan)?
- Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa, Etsunou (injoy) and Shochikuen Cafe all state on their own websites that they use no animal products and none of the five pungent vegetables. Yoroiya's vegan ramen is not suitable, because its stock contains onion.
